Christmas tree sales support hockey program

LISBON — Christmas tree will be for sale on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. to benefit the Lisbon-Mt. Ararat Hockey program.

Trees will be sold at Dairy Maid in Lisbon Falls and the Topsham Fire Department. Trees cost $30 and delivery is available.

Collecting candy for the troops

LISBON — Students and staff of Lisbon Community School, 33 Mill St., recently collected 138 pounds of candy for American servicemen and women through the Operation Gratitude program.

“Members of our LCS Student Council wanted to let our troops know we were thinking of them and that we are also thankful for the contribution they are making serving our country,” said Student Council advisor and Assistant Principal Ryan Patrie. “Thanks to assistance from Center Street Dental in Auburn, The Lisbon Chapter of Veteran’s for Foreign Wars and the LCS Parent Teacher Organization, our troops received their candy delivery before the Thanksgiving Holiday.”

What To Do With The Kids (WTDWTK) has released the results of its worldwide survey about favorite holiday movies or television shows.

WTDWTK contacted parents through LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and email, and asked them to submit their list of favorite family Christmas/holiday movie or television shows. A copy of the special report is available for download at www.WhatToDoWithTheKids.com.

There were more than 440 movie and television suggestions of programs that date back as far as 1946 and as recently as 2004. The most number of comments were by far for the classic black and white Frank Capra movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Many people commented on how their family would get together just to watch this movie, including the younger ones.

The original Chuck Jones animated “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” beat the Ron Howard live action movie, “The Grinch,” by a 3-to-1 margin.

The voting however was very close with a number of selections ending in a tie resulting in the top 10 list having 13 entries.
