BATH
Bath police responded early this morning to a burglary at the Kennebec Tavern on Commercial Street, but apparently arrived so quickly that the thieves took only bottles of liquor.
A burglar alarm at 2:41 a.m. drew officers to the restaurant at 119 Commercial St., Bath Police Lt. Stan Cielinski said today.
When the arrived, police found that the lock on one window had been damaged and the window forced open. Bottles of liquor — Cielinski declined to say how many — were taken.
“The guys were there within one minute of the call, so we think they may have scared them off,” he said.
Police have no suspects at this point, according to Cielinski, although detectives are pursuing leads.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
