Troop 73 scouts

earn special award

Gorham Boy Scouts from Troop 73 have been recognized for their volunteerism on trails at Acadia National Park.

The scouts earning the Boy Scouts of America historic trails award are Matt Southard, Jesse Southard, Kyle Grass, Mark McShane III, Dan Bahun, Adam Harrington and Parker Lane.

Adult Troop 73 leaders are Scott Nystrom, Shawn Harrington, Mark McShane II and Tom Bahun.

As part of a community service project this year with Friends of Acadia and other scouting groups, the members of Troop 73 cleared brush and leaves from the park’s historic carriage roads, a 45-mile network of roads donated by philanthropist John D. Rockefeller Jr.

The Gorham Scouts spent a weekend camping, hiking and working in the park.

Busy Triad schedule

The Westbrook-Gorham Triad will present a program at the seniors’ luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at St. Anne’s Church, 299 Main St., Gorham.

Triad will host a luncheon at the new Lakes Region Community Center on Acorn Street in Gorham 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8.

The group’s regular monthly meeting 8:45-9:45 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 9, at the Gorham Municipal Center, 75 South St.

Triad is a collaborative effort of senior citizens, law enforcement and community providers that promote safety for senior citizens.
