PORTLAND – A key member of the Westbrook High School football team that had its best season in recent memory, a running back that helped the Cheverus Stags to their second straight Class A state championship and a running back that helped lead Wells to the Class B state championship are among the 12 semifinalists for the coveted Fitzpatrick Trophy, which is awarded annually to the best senior high school football player in Maine.
This year’s nominees are: Shawn Carroll, Lawrence; Samuel Chaves, Massabesic; Donald Clark, Cape Elizabeth; Spencer Cooke, Cheverus; John Doyon, Hampden Academy; Jordan Hersom, Leavitt; Luke Libby, Thornton Academy; Logan Mars, Scarborough; Dominic Mowers, Orono; Graham Strondak, Westbrook; Louis DiTomasso, Wells and Isaiha Tracy, Mt. Blue.
The 12 semifinalists were selected by a committee made up of media representatives and members of the Maine chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. The 12 semifinalists will be listed on a ballot to be sent to Maine football coaches and media members this month and the three finalists will be announced on Dec. 18.
The winner of the Fitzpatrick Trophy will be announced at a banquet in Portland on Jan. 15.
