BRUNSWICK

A suspected gas leak at Hannaford on Elm Street early today resulted in the building being evacuated, but no leak or carbon monoxide was detected.

The Brunswick Fire Department responded with two engines and a rescue vehicle at 6:30 a.m. today to the supermarket after receiving reports of a gas smell, Deputy Chief Don Koslosky said today.

Officials metered the building but did not detect any leaks, carbon monoxide or gas, according to Koslosky.

Firefighters suspect the odor — which eventually dissipated — originated in a heating unit in the rear of the building.

No injuries were reported and the fire department cleared the scene at 7:14 a.m.
