BRUNSWICK
Traffic on Pleasant Street was reduced to a single lane in each direction early Sunday morning after a Brunswick woman crashed into a utility pole while allegedly operating under the influence, police say. The crash knocked out power to area residents for approximately five hours.
Just before 3 a.m. Sunday, Brunswick Police Officer Brandon Ingaharro found a 2008 Honda against a pole near Chad Little Outdoor Power Equipment on Pleasant Street, Deputy Chief Marc Hagan said today.
Ingaharro conducted a field sobriety test on the driver, Kaitlynn Gatchell, 23, of 17 Page St., Brunswick, and subsequently arrested her for operating under the influence.
The pole sustained severe damage, Hagan said, and police closed one lane of Pleasant Street in each direction while crews repaired the damage. All lanes reopened between 9 and 10 a.m. Sunday, Hagan said.
Gatchell was not injured, Hagan said. She was released from the Brunswick police station on unsecured bail. She is scheduled to appear in West Bath District Court on Jan. 17, 2011.
