To the editor:

It has been really confusing to me as to how someone can claim Byron Watson was out of line and in the same breath personally attack Byron and his family. It is even more confusing as to why a newspaper on the brink of collapse would publish such garbage and encourage more of its kind.

I guess this is what we have to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

Nobody disagrees with what Byron said, only the way it was said. But all that was stated was, when living paycheck to paycheck it’s very difficult to compete against somebody already there with a lot of money, who would spend any amount of money to secure a seat.

These latest attacks on Byron are political correctness run amok. By using the excuse of not upsetting anybody, the politically correct are demanding people behave like fools and have to please everyone.

All must accept the notion of the politically correct as truth — or else! This is the same thinking that inspired the Inquisition, forced Galileo to recant and inspired the Nazis.

Once expression gets placed in a straightjacket, then the madness that occurs in all totalitarian states is obtained.

Unless plain speaking is allowed, clear thinking is denied.

I personally want to thank Mr. Watson for being so honest. Sometimes people can’t handle the truth, but it’s great that we still live in a society that allows for the people to speak it.

Hopefully this small minority of extremists trying to stifle all freedom of expression will grow up and pull themselves together, and then we can get back to reality.
