The annual award is based on statewide nominations and is linked to student progress, parent engagement and positive community impact. This is the third time in four years that Riverview Foundation’s youth programs have been recognized as among the best in the state.
Riverview’s AIM Program garnered the MASN Exemplary Award in 2008 and in 2009.
“Riverview Foundation programming characteristically includes curriculum to support physical and mental health, promote success in school, encourage healthy choice making and fun with friends and family,” a Riverview Foundation release states. “The foundation’s programs target out- of- school time hours for children and youth age 6 to 18 year-round. Outdoor learning, relaxation, cultural and artistic exploration, physical fitness and community service offer a blend of activities that build peer relationships and engage students with the world around them.”
The Riverview/Brunswick 21st CCLC also offers a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math ( STEM) curriculum, aligned with Maine educational standards and linked directly to Brunswick School Department academic goals.
A partnership between Riverview Foundation, Brunswick School Department and Maine Department of Education currently provides after-school and summer programming to youth enrolled in third through eighth grades in Brunswick schools. Riverview’s programming model (or Youth Horizons) includes goals for cultivating local, regional, state and federal funding sources necessary to maintain low cost, no cost access to program participation for any child, regardless of their ability to pay program tuition.
The Riverview-Brunswick 21st CCLC program operated 1,596 hours of programming, served 163 youth and provided $8,114 in scholarships to Brunswick families during the 2010- 11 school year, according to the release.
