WINDHAM – Voters in each of the towns of the Lakes Region, from Standish to New Gloucester, Windham to Bridgton, mirrored the statewide vote starting with reinstating same-day voter registration.

While some towns were relatively closely divided – such as Naples, which voted 618 to 526 in favor, and Sebago, which voted 287 to 242 – most towns overwhelmingly favored repealing the Legislature’s recent scrapping of same-day voting. The measure also failed statewide, 60 percent to 40 percent.

The gambling questions were less uniform. Question 2, which would have approved a racino in Biddeford and Washington County but went down to statewide defeat, 55 percent to 45 percent, received mixed reviews by Lakes Region voters. Windham, Raymond, Standish and Sebago voted to allow the racinos, while Gray, New Gloucester, Casco and Naples rejected the idea.

Question 3, which would have brought a casino to Lewiston, was soundly defeated in each town, as it was statewide, 63 percent to 37 percent. Most notably, New Gloucester, which is only two towns away from the proposed Bates Mill No. 5 site, voted 1,165 to 503 against the casino.

Question 4, which changes the years for redistricting, was approved by voters in all but three towns. New Gloucester, Casco and Naples residents didn’t approve the measure. Question 4 passed statewide, 53 percent to 47 percent.
