WELLS — Nathan Spring died Friday night after a car crash close to his home.
According to a prepared statement from Wells Police, Spring, 22, was driving on Perry Oliver Road around 11:40 p.m. Friday night near the intersection of Quarry Road, at a high rate of speed.
Police said Spring lost control, went off the roadway, and hit a tree followed by a telephone pole. Spring was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected onto the road.
Spring was transported to Maine Medical Center and was pronounced dead shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday, according to police. Spring lived about a half-mile from the site of the crash, said police.
No other vehicle was involved in the accident, said police.
Spring worked at Grissini Italian Bistro in Kennebunk, according to his obituary and was described as an outgoing and happy-go-lucky guy.
The Wells Police Department in conjunction with an accident reconstructionist from South Berwick Police Department were investigating the crash, police said Saturday.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
