Talented locals

There are two events showcasing local talent coming up right here in Naples. The first is this weekend, Salute our Vets! A Star Spangled Cabaret, honors our soldiers this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4 and 5 starting at 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion in Naples, Route 11. Admission is $10 for adults, and $8 for veterans, seniors and kids 12 and under. A 50/50 raffles, raffle baskets and refreshments will be available.

Watching your neighbor or kid down the street lip sync a song is sure to be entertaining. I suspect that those pop stars make realistic lip-syncing look easier that it is, making for some good laughs at the very least! Support the LRHS Girl’s Varsity Basketball Team by attending this most creative fundraiser to be held on Friday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. at Lake Region High School, Route 302, Naples. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. If you are feeling the need to be seen on stage, now is your chance. You, too, can be a part of the show for just $10! All prospective performers can register online at the school’s website. Deadline to register is Nov. 11, so get online now.

November 5th

There is no way you can be bored on Nov. 5 around Naples. Read on about all the events going on that day.

• For years, The Naples Community Resource Council has been helping local families with their many efforts including the Food Pantry, Thanksgiving Baskets, Christmas for Kids programs and more, but not without the help of the community. Right now the CRC needs help restocking the pantry shelves in preparation for the demand this winter. On Saturday, Nov. 5, from 9 a.m.-noon, bring your non-perishable food items to Tony’s Foodland where volunteers will be collecting them. The organization will also be accepting gently worn coats, or new toys for the upcoming Christmas for Kids program. If you would prefer to make a monetary contribution, you can do so at the drive, or send a check to CRC, P.O. Box 447, Naples, Maine 04055.

• The unofficial start of the holiday season kicks off with two very popular craft events right here in Naples. The 21st Annual Inn and Long Lake Craft Fair takes place both Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 6. The Victorian-inspired elegance of the Inn is the perfect setting to get one in the mood for the holidays. Crafters and the scents of mulled apple cider fill the rooms. The show runs Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Inn on Lake House Road.

Coincidentally it is also the 21st year for the Holly Berry Fair, run each year to benefit Project Graduation. This fair takes place at LRHS Saturday, Nov. 5 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Bring the kids and check out the vendors, entertainment, kids activities, baked goods and even a visit from Santa.

• If you would like something a bit more exciting than shopping you should try out pumpkin and apple flinging. Sebago’s Spaulding Memorial Library will be holding a “Punkin Chunkin” event from 1-3 p.m. at the lower ball field behind Sebago Elementary School, Route 114. Participants will be able to load their pumpkins or apples into a slingshot and let ‘em rip! To park, take Marina road, across from the fire station, to Pit Road, and park near the field. There will be cider, 50/50 raffle, and pumpkins and apples for sale. FMI, call 787-2321 or Claudia Lowe at 787-3445.

For dinner, you could head on over to Songo Locks School where a Benefit Bean Supper will be held for local Troy Bell, who was injured in a motorcycle accident. Supper will be served from 5-6 p.m. Tickets are $7 adults and $4 for kids 5-12, under 5 free. A 50/50 and basket raffle will also take place that night.
