GORHAM – On Wednesday night, the top-ranked Gorham girls soccer team and No. 3 Scarborough met for the Class A West title, and for the first 79 minutes, the game was knotted at 0-0.

But just as it appeared the two teams would settle the score in overtime, the Red Storm broke through and got a goal in the last minute to upset Gorham 1-0 and send Scarborough to the state final on Saturday.

The final play was a wild one as the Storm’s Jessica Meader ran into Gorham goalkeeper Sarah Perkins, with the ball loose in front, Meader managed to get into the net, giving the Storm the win.

The defending state champion Red Storm will meet Bangor at Falmouth High School at 3 p.m. on Saturday in a rematch of last year’s title game, won by the Storm, 3-0.
