Police decline to provide details of Saturday shooting

Police are not releasing any information about a Saturday night shooting in downtown Lewiston.

A man was shot around 8:40 p.m. Saturday and taken to Central Maine Medical Center, according to reports Saturday. That was all the information investigators would confirm for the media.

On Sunday, Lewiston authorities again declined to release any information about the investigation, including where in the city the shooting took place. The man, who was not named, did not appear to have life-threatening injuries, according to reports Saturday night.

Man ejected from vehicle in crash dies at the hospital

Maine State Police say a 29-year-old man has died as a result of a car crash in St. Agatha.

Police say Jared Voisine of St. Agatha lost control of his Pontiac Sunbird on Route 162 early Saturday.

The car skidded off the road into a ditch and rolled over, ejecting Voisine from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Voisine was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, but died from severe head trauma and internal injuries.

Park closing visitor center, entrance station for winter

In an annual rite of fall, Acadia National Park is closing one of its visitor centers and its Sand Beach entrance station as the cold-weather season arrives.

Park officials say the Hulls Cove visitor center and the Sand Beach station are closing today for the season. During the winter, park information is available at the winter visitor center at park headquarters.

The park’s popular Park Loop Road is scheduled to close Dec. 1, unless a major snowstorm forces an earlier closure. But the park will leave open two miles of Park Loop Road from Schooner Head overlook to Otter Cliff Road.

Public forum Tuesday to help decide the fate of river dams

A public forum will be held Tuesday to help determine the fate of two dams in the Royal River.

A panel of experts and town leaders will discuss the future of the dams at Bridge Street, which includes a power-generating plant, and East Elm Street.

The town was an industrial hub in the past and the river was a great source of power. Town leaders are weighing the cost of maintaining the dams against their various environmental impacts.

The forum starts at 7 p.m. in the community room at Yarmouth Town Hall.

Aggressive driving may have led to fatal crash, police say

The driver of a vehicle lost control and crashed here Sunday, ejecting two unbelted women and killing one of them. Three children suffered minor injuries.

Trooper 1st Class Bryan Trask said Jennifer Caradonna, 30, of Manchester was cut off by another vehicle just before noon Sunday on Route 101 West before the Huse Road overpass. Caradonna’s car veered into the median and rolled over several times, ejecting Caradonna and a passenger. Caradonna died at a hospital.

The other passenger, Melissa Caradonna, 28, of Manchester  suffered serious injuries but they did not appear to be life-threatening, Trask said.

Police said aggressive driving appeared to be a factor in the crash.
