WESTBROOK – It looks like it’s going to be a pretty big weekend for Westbrook football.
On Friday night, the high school team will be playing in the postseason for the first time in several years, as the Blazes had a solid first season in Class B, finishing as the No. 5 seed.
Then on Saturday, fans of Westbrook football can see the future in action as the Westbrook Tuffy Football varsity team, the primary feeder program for the high school team, will be playing for its first-ever state championship.
Last Sunday, the boys from Westbrook captured the championship in the Maine Youth Football League’s Harvest Bowl tournament held at Portland’s Fitzpatrick Stadium. The Westbrook Tuffy Football squad turned back challenges from teams from Portland, South Portland and Yarmouth to capture the first championship in the Westbrook Tuffy Football program’s history.
But Westbrook has a bigger title in its sights and will be squaring off against Rockland at Memorial Stadium at Deering High School at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in a quest to bring the Maine Youth Football League’s state championship trophy home to Westbrook.
