STANDISH – Now that’s more like the Bonny Eagle football team that we’re used to seeing.

After an unusual season where the Scots struggled out of the gate, dropping their first three games to start the campaign, Bonny Eagle has put the hammer down, winning five straight, including a 47-7 pounding of Windham in the season finale, to wrap up the No. 4 playoff spot in the Class A West tournament.

The Scots will likely be the team that no one wants to face in the postseason. While their poor start kept them out of the top three seeds, the Scots are playing with the ferocity that they usually display on the field and the Scots could pose the most dangerous threat to No. 1 Cheverus, a team Bonny Eagle will likely face in the semifinals, provided the Scots get past No. 5 Deering on Saturday afternoon.

The Scots pummeled the Eagles, who bounced back from their 0-3 start and will be the No. 7 seed in the playoffs, with an offensive attack that lit the skies with 256 passing yards to go with 345 rushing yards.

Scots’ quarterback Tyson Goodale paced the Bonny Eagle offense with four touchdown passes and he added over 130 yards rushing. Matt Burnell caught four passes, including one for a touchdown and he also added a rushing touchdown and he threw a 57-yard option pass to Cam Cooper for a touchdown.

The Scot defense had a strong game as well, stifling the Eagle attack, limiting them to just 163 total yards in the game. The lone Windham score of the contest came on a 95-yard kickoff return from Damien Shepard.

Now, the Scots will host No. 5 Deering in a quarterfinal game at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Bonny Eagle faced the Rams just two weeks ago, and they handed Deering its most decisive loss of the season, a 41-7 beating at Bonny Eagle that featured five rushing touchdowns from Goodale.
