Leonard scrambles to earn tie for the lead at Disney

Justin Leonard chipped in three times in a span of five holes Saturday to salvage a scrappy day at Disney with a 2-under 70 that gave him a share of the lead with PGA Tour rookie Kevin Chappell after three rounds in the Children’s Miracle Network Classic at Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Chappell was much more consistent in a round of 66, overcoming a bogey on the opening hole. They were at 14-under 202, one shot ahead of 21-year-old Bio Kim.

LPGA: Top-ranked Yani Tseng shot a 5-under 67 for a two-shot lead going into the final round of the LPGA Taiwan Championship at Yang Mei, Taiwan.

Tseng’s third round included seven birdies and two bogeys for a 10-under 206 total.

EUROPEAN TOUR: Sergio Garcia shot a 7-under-par 64 to extend his lead to eight shots after the third round of the Castello Masters at Castellon, Spain.

PREP SCHOOLS

FIELD HOCKEY: Holly Gallup scored with 34 seconds left to give Kents Hill (4-3) a 2-1 victory over Hebron Academy at Hebron.

• Izzy Eldridge scored on a rebound to give Berwick Academy a 1-1 tie against Gould at Bethel.

FOOTBALL: Shaquille Cezont-Holmes scored on runs of 81 and 57 yards, and threw two TD passes to lead Hebron Academy (1-4) to a 33-0 victory over Hyde School (0-5) in Bath.

BOYS’ SOCCER: Dexter Doucet scored for Berwick Academy in a 3-1 loss to Portsmouth Abbey at Portsmouth, R.I.

GIRLS’ SOCCER: Brooke Downey and Molly Lapointe scored as Berwick Academy beat Portsmouth Abbey 2-0 at Portsmouth, R.I.

NASCAR: Mark Martin and Jimmie Johnson gave Hendrick Motorsports a sweep of the front row for today’s Good Sam Club 500 at Talladega, Ala.

• Mike Wallace won the Truck Series race at Talladega Superspeedway, finishing ahead of Ron Hornaday Jr.

WOMEN’S WORLD CUP: Lindsey Vonn used a blistering finish to win the season-opening giant slalom at Soelden, Austria.
