YORK – Cari Posternak, Liz Fiorentino and Taylor Simpson each had a goal and an assist as top-ranked York defeated eighth-seeded Lake Region 4-0 Thursday in a Western Class B field hockey quarterfinal.
Posternak scored from Fiorentino and Shelby Spencer just over six minutes into the game. Simpson put in a rebound with 5:38 left in the first period or the Wildcats (14-1).
Andrea Beaulieu scored from Posternak and Simpson five minutes into the second half and Fiorentino got the final goal off a rebound with four minutes remaining.
SACOPEE VALLEY 3, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 1: The top-seeded Hawks (12-2-1) got goals from three atypical scorers in a defeat of the eighth-ranked Seagulls (3-12) in a Western Class C quarterfinal at South Hiram.
After Jamie Crowley scored for the Seagulls after 10 minutes, Elizabeth Moulton tied it five minutes later following a penalty corner by Chelsey Burnell. Paige Shortsleeves put in a rebound with four minutes left in the half to give the Hawks the lead.
Danielle Pierce converted a penalty stroke early in the second half for the final goal.
