The Occupy Maine encampment has established midnight as the start of quiet hour, but many people tuck in earlier.

After washing dishes in a plastic tub, Macy Lamson slept while her fiancee, Shane Blodgett, talked about what led the couple here from Augusta eight days ago.

Both unemployed and frustrated by their inability to find steady work, they came for the weekend and wound up staying. They want to marry and have a family, but are discouraged by their prospects for the future.

“It’s sad,” Blodgett said. “But it has become the reality, especially for youth. How am I supposed to provide for a family, when I can’t even provide for myself?”
