GORHAM – It seems like the Bonny Eagle football team’s 0-3 start is just a distant memory.

On Friday night, the Scots won their third consecutive game, stunning Gorham (3-3) with a 29-22 come-from-behind win at Gorham.

The win over the Rams, who led 22-8 at one point in the game, boosts the Scots into playoff contention in the Class A West Crabtree Points. On Wednesday morning, the Scots were in fifth place overall, trailing No. 1 Cheverus (6-0), No. 2 South Portland (5-1), No. 3 Deering (5-1) and No. 4 Thornton Academy (5-1).

With two games to go in the regular season, Gorham is just outside the playoff bubble, sitting at No. 9 with the top eight teams making the playoffs.

On Friday night, it looked like Gorham was going to derail the Scots’ winning streak, as the Rams jumped out to a 22-8 first-half lead on a touchdown from Brad Turnbaugh and two from Matt McKenney.

But as the first half drew to a close, the Scots showed that they weren’t going to go down without a fight as Tyson Goodale, who had scored the Scots’ first touchdown in the first quarter, hit Cam Cooper with a 40-yard pass that set up a one-yard touchdown run from Goodale to make it 22-15 at the break.

In the second half, the Bonny Eagle defense kept the Rams off the scoreboard and Nick Adkins had 15-yard run to tie the score at 22 at the end of the third quarter.

With time running out, the Scots grabbed the lead for the first time in the game with just over a minute to play as Goodale got his third score of the game on a 54-yard run. Gorham still had a chance to pull off the win, but the Scots’ defense stepped up and Matt Burnell sealed the win with a interception as time ran out on the Rams.

As Gorham looks to battle back into playoff contention, they will have to first get past a resurgent Massabesic (4-2) squad on the road this Friday night. Following the game with the Mustangs, Gorham will host Scarborough (2-4) in the season finale on Oct. 21.

Bonny Eagle has a tough road in its final two regular season games. First up for the Scots is a clash with No. 2 Deering at home on Friday night. Following the game with the Rams, the Scots close out the season with a home game with 3-3 Windham.

The Scots started to come to life as the first half drew to a
close. A 40-yard pass play from Tyson Goodale to Cam Cooper put the
ball on the 1-yard line and set up a running touchdown that made
the score 22-15
