Ingraham library guest speaker

Westbrook native James Ingraham will be at Walker Memorial Library, 800 Main St. to participate in the Author Speaks series at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20,

Ingraham will be sharing parts of his new novel, “Sahara Dust.”

Detective Sgt. Randa Sorel is assigned to investigate the murder of a former NCIS agent whose body is found on a beach in southwest Florida. When the FBI takes over the investigation, officials demand that Sorel be removed from the case.

The FBI then assigns Native American agent Tyonek Horse to handle the investigation. Sorel soon finds herself enmeshed in a struggle against international and domestic forces that threaten her life.

In 2008, Ingraham presented his first novel “Remains to be Seen” with folks at Walker.

Drouin dancers in Big Apple parade

Six student dancers from Drouin Dance Center of Westbrook have been invited to perform in the 2011 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

The dancers from Westbrook are Sarah Hopkins, 16; Mikala Varela, 17; Amber Wallace, 15; Whitney Wallace, 16; Kelly Wilson, 16; and Kendra Madore, 16, of Portland.

They will join 300 selected dancers from around the country and perform with Spirit of America Productions in the opening number for the parade in Herald Square on Thanksgiving Day. The dancers will travel to New York City for Thanksgiving week and take part in rehearsals with Spirit of America Productions, tour the city, take in a Broadway show, attend dance classes, and watch the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes.

They have begun extensive fundraising for their trip. Those wishing to contribute toward the trip or help with fundraising should contact Drouin Dance Center at 854-2221 or drouindancecenter@yahoo.com.

USI New England announced that Chris Chapman of Westbrook has been named East Coast consultant for Alpine Shield. He is one of two consultants on the East Coast.

Alpine Shield, an exclusive USI insurance product, is a risk solution insurance program for mountain sports and resorts and is one of only three programs offered in the United States.

Meals volunteer position available

Westbrook/Portland Meals on Wheels Site is looking for volunteer drivers.

Drivers deliver a healthy meal to home-bound seniors in the community. Mileage reimbursement is available.
