SACO – Four lanes of Route 1 were shut down for more than five hours Wednesday after a car hit a telephone pole, snapping it in half.
A dispatcher for the Saco Police Department said the pole and wires fell across the busy road around 1:45 p.m.
All four lanes were closed until about 7 p.m. while utility crews repaired the damage. The driver of the car, whose name was unavailable, was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries.
The accident happened just north of the Funtown amusement park, police said.
No major traffic jams were reported as police directed traffic around the crash site.
