GORHAM – Kendal Nicely, 20, of Gorham, can now boast that she’s on top of the archery world, and really mean it.
Earlier this month, Nicely, who has been practicing archery since the age of three, won her second individual world title in the compound junior women’s category at the world championships in Legnica, Poland, where she also set a new record in a 15-arrow match with 148 points.
Nicely’s latest title is just one more honor in her already stellar career. She has won three junior world titles, taking home the individual championship in 2008, and helping win team championships in 2008 and 2009. At the World Archery Youth Championships earlier this year, Nicely won an individual gold medal and teamed up with Garrett Abernethy to capture the silver medal in the mixed team category.
At the most recent world championships in Poland, Nicely out shot the Netherlands’ Inge Van Caspel for the title, hitting a perfect 10 on her last arrow to clinch the championship and the new world record.
