RAYMOND – An afternoon accident involving four vehicles caused serious injuries Friday on Route 302 in Raymond.
Police say Steven Hazen, 62, of Boston, Mass., was heading east on Route 302 near Hawthorne Road and attempting to make a left turn into a driveway when his Ford sedan was rear-ended by a 2008 pickup truck driven by Robert Boyle, 50, of Windham.
Hazen’s sedan was knocked into the oncoming lane, where it was struck head-on by a 2008 Chevy pickup being driven by Brian Clark, 65, of Naples. Clark’s vehicle was knocked off the road and into the woods, while Hazen’s was forced into the eastbound lane, where it was hit by a 2002 Toyota SUV driven by Ellen Deluca, 61, of Casco.
The sedan caught fire and came to rest in the westbound lane. Hazen sustained serious but non-life-threatening, including head and leg trauma, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. He was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland, and is condition at this time is unknown.
Clark was also taken to Maine Med for unspecified injuries, possibly including head and neck injuries. His condition is also unknown.
Hazen’s vehicle was consumed by the fire and is a total loss, police said. The two Chevy trucks sustained heavy damage, as well.
