Coach: Phil Prideaux, first year
Last year’s record: 4-5
Key returning players: The Patriots will build their team around the talents of junior Josh Bagdon, who plays tackle and defensive end. Other than that, the field is wide open for members to prove themselves, as Prideaux’s team is very young.
Key games this season: The Patriots opened the season against Falmouth last Friday, and things didn’t go well as Gray-New Gloucester lost by a lopsided 65-0 score. On Sept. 16, Gray-New Gloucester gets another tough test as they face Wells, a team that went 6-4 last year and went to the Western Maine finals.
Season outlook: Grey-New Gloucester is very young, and this fact – paired with new Head Coach Phil Prideaux – makes 2011 likely a rebuilding year. Over 20 of the team’s 30-plus member roster are freshmen and sophomores. Prideaux served as an assistant coach last year, and brings experience to the table, but the team may need to get a bit of seasoning before it can start to contend.

Key returning players: The Patriots will rely on four strong returners: Maggie Chaplin, Haylee Cote, Sammie Wilkins and Taylor Darnell.
Key games this season: According to Newell, Gray-New Gloucester will be on the lookout for Yarmouth, Falmouth, Greely and York, all of whom should prove to be tough competition this season.
Season outlook: “Though we are very young, our team is comprised of highly motivated players who posses the hearts of lions and the skill to compete with anyone in the state,” Newell said. “There is a wonderful atmosphere in our community, and we have tremendous support. Sure the season will have its bumps, the right attitude is there. This team’s goal is to win a bunch of games and head into the playoffs well-prepared for the challenges that await us.”
