Art at the new Ocean Avenue Elementary School in Portland is climbable, much to the delight of Jack Caron and Maya Huff. The two kindergarten students were part of a crowd of students and parents at a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house on Thursday, Sept. 1.Third-grader Jacob Orenstein welcomes students and parents into the just-opened Ocean Avenue Elementary School on Thursday, Sept. 1, in Portland. Cheering him on are fellow third-grader Susan Cruz-Gaitar, left, who assisted in the ribbon cutting, Mayor Nick Mavadones and School Board member Sarah Thompson. An open house and ice cream social followed, giving students a chance to tour the new building and find their classrooms and teachers.
