Seniors to see Rockettes
Reservations are due by Tuesday, Sept. 20, for those wishing to join Westbrook Senior Citizens on a trip to see the Rockettes, a New York dance company, in Massachusetts on Monday, Dec. 19.
Ann McAlpine of the seniors’ group said prices are $125 for prime seats or $88 for secondary seating.
The seniors are also planning a trip to Indian Head in Lincoln, N.H., on Sunday, Nov. 27. Then on Wednesday, Dec. 7, they will tour the holiday lights in Massachusetts.

Paws in Park coming Sept. 4
The Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland’s annual fundraiser, Paws in the Park, is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 4, at Portland’s Payson Park. The dog walk at 11, preceded by events beginning at 10, including agility demonstrations, pet items for sale, raffles, rescue groups, adoptable dogs, animal communicators Sara Moore and Jailene Fontaine, Reiki demonstrations, micro-chipping and a host of other activities.
Erin Ovalle from WMTW 8 is honorary master of ceremonies and WGAN’s Ken and Mike will serve as judges for the Cool Canine Contest held after the walk. Prizes will be awarded to the team, child and adult with the highest dollar value in pledges.
This is a rain or shine event and a dog is not required to participate in the walk. The proceeds will help provide food, shelter, emergency, and preventative veterinary care, as well as provide new beginnings for the more than 4,000 animals who come through the Westbrook shelter’s doors each year.
To celebrate the ARL’s 100th anniversary, this year there will also be a 5K run that will precede the dog walk. The Furry Friends 5K will begin at 9 (registration at 8) and also be in Payson Park.

Nail salon hosts blood drive
TNT Nails, at 672 Main St., Westbrook, is holding a blood drive on Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the salon.
The drive is presented with the American Red Cross. Register by calling the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED CROSS. The Red Cross is offering a free t-shirt commemorating Sept. 11 to all donors.
The drive is a first for the salon, which is offering free OPI lotion and a chance to win a $50 salon gift card to donors.
Seeking area classmates
The Portland High School class of 1950 hopes to locate classmates in this area for its initial reunion-luncheon from noon to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at DiMillo’s Floating Restaurant in Portland.
Joan Hodgdon of the reunion committee said reservations are required by Tuesday, Aug. 30.

Savvy caregiver series
The Southern Maine Agency on Aging in Scarborough is sponsoring a free series, Savvy Caregiver, for family caregivers of people with dementia.
The 12-hour training has sessions 1-3 p.m. on Sept. 15, 22, and 29 in addition to Oct. 6, 13 and 20 at the Westbrook Community Center.
The training includes learning how to take care of yourself and reduce stress; improve communication with the person to make both of your days better; and learn about demetia and how it affects the person.
