A Run for the Fallen event, honoring military members with ties to Maine, who sacrificed their lives in defense of the United States on Sept. 11, 2001, will be held Sunday.
The 65K run will begin at Ogunquit Center at 7:45 a.m. with a ceremony, including a Marine Corps 21 gun salute, followed by the run to Monument Square in Portland.
A lobster bake will follow the event at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth. Pre-registration is required. For more details, go to www.runforthefallenmaine.org.

Library director reception
The Norway Memorial Library Board of Trustees will hold a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the library to honor outgoing 30-year library director Ann Siekman and incoming library director Beth Kane.

Sign-ups are being accepted for a free “Introduction to Spanish” course to be offered from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays from Sept. 9 to Dec. 15.

Southern Maine Garden Club will hold its annual garden party and membership drive at 5:30 p.m. today at the Lebanon One-Room Schoolhouse Ice Cream Parlor and petting zoo, 253 Bakers Grand Road.

Vermont music duo Rebecca Hall and Ken Anderson will perform as Hungrytown at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Camden Public Library Amphitheatre, 55 Main St. The concert is free. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs for seating.

Children’s Chorus to begin
Midcoast Community Chorus will hold an open discussion at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at John Street United Methodist Church detailing its Children’s Chorus rehearsal and performance season.
The non-auditioned youth chorus is open to ages 7 to 14. The first meeting is 4 p.m. Sept. 21 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Chestnut Street. The weekly meetings are from 4 to 5:15 p.m. Wednesdays through Dec. 14.
