A Standish man, John Townsend, has died from injuries sustained in a one-car motor vehicle accident that took place last week on Route 35 in Standish.
According to investigators, Townsend, 69, of Ossipee Trail West in Standish, may have suffered a medical event that may have caused the accident. Additional information will be released when the investigation is complete. The investigation is ongoing and could take several weeks.
The accident occurred in the area of 1215 Chadbourne Road (Route 35) at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 28. According to Capt. Jeff Davis of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Townsend’s vehicle traveled down a roadside embankment and struck a tree, trapping Townsend inside. He was extricated from the vehicle and transported to the Maine Medical Center in Portland where he died from his injuries, Davis said.
The Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team is currently investigating the accident to determine the cause and contributing factors.
