Authors to speak
Mystery writers Marcia Talley and Julia Spencer Fleming will interview each other at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, at the North Gorham Public Library about their award-winning novels, their lives, and the current state of publishing.
The program is free and the library is located at the intersection of North Gorham and Standish Neck roads.

Baxter home
from Turkey
Gorham High School teacher Shauna Baxter is one of three teachers from Maine who have returned from Turkey after spending two weeks studying the country.
They participated through the Turkish Cultural Foundation’s Teacher Study Tour program, organized in collaboration with the World Affairs Council of America and its nationwide chapters.
The teachers will now start to work with the World Affairs Council of Maine to develop lessons plans about Turkey for their classrooms, as well as a fall 2011 “Portraits of Turkey” event series for the public.
The three teachers, who hailed from Brunswick School Department and Portland Public Schools besides Baxter, were part of a group of 30 teachers to take part in the first of two study tour trips this summer.
Baxter teaches history at Gorham High School.
Summer concert
Royal River Philharmonic Jazz Band will play in a free summer concert 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, at the gazebo on the lawn of Gorham Municipal Center, 75 South St.
The concert is sponsored by Gorham Recreation Department.
