PORTLAND — The trail connecting downtown Portland to the Eastern Promenade will be named for former City Manager Joseph Gray.
A granite trail marker will be unveiled at a ceremony today, and the City Council at its meeting tonight will vote on a resolution to name the trail.
Gray, who retired in February, worked for the city for more than 40 years. He was heavily involved in the creation of Portland’s extensive network of trails.
“Without question the city is a better, more connected and engaged community as a result of Joe’s commitment to residents and businesses who call Portland home,” said Mayor Nicholas Mavodones, in a news release from the city.
Today’s ceremony starts at 5 p.m. on Commercial Street near the intersection with India Street.
