PORTLAND – The murder trial of Daudoit Butsitsi continued today with the jury hearing excerpts of his interview with police detectives.
Butsitsi, 25, is on trial in Cumberland Country Superior Court for fatally shooting 24-year-old Serge Mulongo last year.
In excerpts of the interview played to the jury, Butsitsi claimed he drove to Massachusetts after having a fight with Mulango earlier in the day.
Butsitsi said he went to Lynn and Fall River because he wanted to cool off and get high.
Police said they had surveillence video of his car at a Congress Street gas station that night. The video, they said, showed Moses Okot had Butsitsi’s car.
Butsitsi had said that he did not know Okot well and that his family members were the only other people besides himself who drove the car.
Okot pleaded guilty to felony murder — a lesser offense than murder — earlier this month.
The prosecution wrapped up its case today and the defense will begin calling witnesses this afternoon.
