WESTBROOK — Firefighters from several communities and members of two hazardous materials teams responded to a spill of pool chemicals this morning at Namco on Larrabee Road.

Containers of sodium hypochlorite fell from a storage bin inside the building and ruptured, spilling between 50 and 60 gallons of the toxic chemical at 9:43 a.m., according to the Westbrook Fire Rescue Department.

Firefighters from Westbrook, Gorham, Grey, Scarborough, Standish, Windham and members of the Portland and Presumpscot Valley hazardous materials teams responded and neutralized the chemicals.

Workers at Namco evacuated the building, as did employees of two neighboring businesses.

No injuries were reported. Firefighters cleared the scene at 4 p.m.
