UMaine running back dies in Pennsylvania traffic accident
Charles Kyeremeh, a University of Maine running back, was killed Sunday afternoon in a motorcycle accident near Donaldson, Pa.
Kyeremeh, 20, was red-shirted during his freshman year in 2010-11.
“Charles was an outstanding young man who had a bright future, both on and off the football field,” said Coach Jack Cosgrove. “He was an important part of our team, and we are all devastated by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with Charles’ family and friends during this difficult time.”
BASEBALL
NECBL: Will Johnson went 5 for 5, including a home run and two doubles, while Regan Flaherty hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Laconia Muskrats (10-13) to an 8-7 win over the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide (6-18) at Laconia.
Marcus Way led the Raging Tide with three RBI on two hits.
• The Sanford Mainers (12-11) scored three runs in each of the first three innings en route to a 12-6 win over the New Bedford Bay Sox (8-11) at Sanford.
Jack Lupo led the way for Sanford with five RBI on a single, double, and sacrifice fly. Nick LaCroix and Brett Mollenhauer each drove in two runs.
AMERICAN LEGION: Hunter Duncan and Jake Pelchat each drove in two runs to lead Massabesic to an 8-7 win over York/Wells at Waterboro.
Travis Mansfield’s RBI single in the fifth proved to be the game-winner.
• Harry Ridge had four RBI on three hits as First Title of Maine (7-4) cruised to an 8-3 victory over Morrill Post (7-5) at Portland.
Joey Royer added a pair of RBI for First Title.
Ryan Curit had two hits and scored twice for Morrill Post.
• Matt Burnell stole home in the first inning to spark Moody’s Collision Centers (5-9) to a 5-2 victory over Cumberland (3-9) at Gorham. Burnell stole two more bases in the game.
Steven Broy, Tom Hazelton, and Alex McCarthy each drove in a run for Moody’s. Starter Damon Wallace stuck out six in six innings. Hazelton struck out the side in the seventh for the save.
Luke Saffion had two hits for Cumberland.
• Nick Payne had a bases-loaded two-RBI single in a five-run fifth inning for Nova Seafood (5-7) in a 6-4 win over OA Yarmouth (3-9) at Portland. Luke Pierce had an RBI triple for OA Yarmouth.
• Luke Dunklee scattered five hits through five innings and scored four times for Augusta Post 205 on the way to a 17-4 win against Amato’s of Rockland (7-8) at Rockland.
