PORTLAND — Police are investigating the motive behind an assault that took place tonight in a Grant Street apartment building.

Lt. Robert Ridge said two males climbed a fire escape to the second floor, smashed a window, and then hit the apartment’s occupant on the head with a rock or brick.

The men fled by getting into a vehicle, but police were unable to get a descripton of the car.

Ridge said it does not appear that the victim, a male in his early 20s, will need to be hospitalized.
The assault took place around 10:20 p.m. at 142 Grant St.
