NEW FACES
• Jamie Broder, an attorney who specializes in the development of elderly housing and the financing of energy projects, recently joined Bernstein Shur as a shareholder.
Broder, of Cumberland, has 36 years of legal experience in Washington, D.C., and Portland. He is general counsel to the nation’s fifth-largest nonprofit developer of housing for the elderly. Broder also acts as counsel to one of Maine’s largest long-term care providers in matters involving development, financing and acquisition of assisted-living and long-term care facilities throughout Maine. Broder’s energy practice includes electric transmission infrastructure projects in Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Vermont and Hawaii and biofuels manufacturing in Maine. His role on these projects involved matters of project finance, permitting, contract law, and multistate utility power-pool regulatory work.
• Christopher Perry joined Baystate Financial Services in Falmouth as a financial services representative.
• Michael Dempsey joined St. Joseph’s College as vice president for institutional advancement. Dempsey, of Kennebunk, has 25 years of experience in fundraising. He was the first full-time director of development at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford. There, he was instrumental in recruiting former President George H.W. Bush as honorary chairman for the capital campaign and won approval to name the new building the Dorothy Walker Bush Pavilion.
AWARDS
• Allen Insurance and Financial was honored with the President’s Award by Peerless Insurance and Safeco Insurance, members of the Liberty Mutual Group. The firm was also recognized for its exemplary service to Peerless and Safeco customers.
• Susan Davies was recognized with the 2011 Environmental Stewardship Award from the Society for Freshwater Science. Davies, of Oakland, was recognized for her work in furthering the protection of freshwater habitats. She is a senior biologist who serves as the water quality standards coordinator for the Maine Department of Environmental Protection’s Bureau of Land and Water Quality.
• Sherry C. Morrison of the financial services firm Edward Jones recently won the Jack Phelan Achievement Award, the Cumulative Hire Award, and the Field Trainer Award at the firm’s summer regional meetings.
BOARD APPOINTMENTS
• Mary Darling was recently reappointed president of the board of directors for Crisis & Counseling Centers. Darling has been a board member since May 2009. The new members of the board of directors include: Maria Woodman, Mary-Anne LaMarre and Heather Washburn.
• Richard L. Roy of Minot was elected chairman of the board of directors for Central Maine Medical Center. Roy is executive vice president and chief banking officer at Mechanics Savings Bank in Auburn.
