PORTLAND — The Maine Department of Transportation wants the public’s feedback on its plan to replace the Martin Point Bridge, a section of Route 1 that carries traffic over the Presumpscot River between Portland and Falmouth.

An informational meeting on the project, which will cost in the vicinity of $30 million, will be held Wednesday, July 13, in Portland’s Merrill Auditorium. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Green Room.

Transportation engineers say they are interested in identifying local concerns and issues, as well as how replacing the 67-year-old bridge might impact local resources.

The state is considering several options that may include shutting the bridge down, building a temporary bridge, building a bridge in phases, or constructing a new bridge that would run parallel to the existing bridge.

The bridge carries more than 15,000 vehicles daily. Mark Latti, a spokesman for MDOT, said construction is not likely to start until April 2012.
