The Maine Tennis Association championships will be held July 8-10 at the Waynflete tennis complex in Portland. The tournament is sanctioned as a double major by the MTA. It is open to players of all ages and abilities, with competition in men’s and women’s open singles and doubles, as well as men’s singles in 35-and-over, 45-and-over and 55-and-over divisions. Portland Trails board members Mark Goettel and Andy Abrams will offer a preview to the Portland Trails 10K Trail to Ale as part of the Portland Trails Discovery Trek Series. Runners are invited to meet at Ocean Gateway Terminal and run the 10K course. The preview will give runners an idea of what to expect on the day of the race, to be held on Sept. 18. The Urban Epic Challenge, presented by Oxford Networks, will be held on Saturday on the Portland waterfront. The 4.5-mile course starts on the East End Trail and features obstacles designed with the input of industry experts from the worlds of fitness, outdoor recreation, mountain operations and the military.
