WATERVILLE – “Who is Adam F. Marshall?”
Until Wednesday night, that was the correct answer, phrased in the form of a question, to: “The Colby College senior who is the current ‘Jeopardy!’ champion.”
On Monday, Marshall, a government major from Bethesda, Md., upended five-time champ Jay Rhee, an oncologist from Annapolis, Md., and Dan Carroll, a project manager from Marietta, Ga., on the Emmy Award-winning television show.
All three wrote the correct Final Jeopardy answer “What is Texas Hold ‘Em?” in response to: “In 2007 Robstown, near Corpus Christi, was recognized as the birthplace of this game, now played online, too.”
Marshall’s winnings, though — $26,600 — bested the winnings of the other two.
On the show that aired Tuesday night, Marshall continued his winning ways.
He finally lost Wednesday night, when he couldn’t answer the Final Jeopardy question, to which the answer was “The USS Constitution (Old Ironsides).”
Marshall’s Facebook page says he is a camp counselor at a summer camp in Bethesda, which provides youths ages 7 to 16 the opportunity to explore filmmaking, web design and animation, as well as sports that include basketball, gymnastics and team handball.
His Facebook page also shows a photo of Marshall uploaded in 2007 that reportedly pictures him during a Quiz Bowl competition. Quiz Bowl poses questions about literature, history, science, math, geography, philosophy and general knowledge.
Friends and family of Marshall likely watched “Jeopardy!” on Wednesday night hoping “Who is Adam Marshall?” was the correct answer to: “The person still in contention to break Ken Jennings’ 74-consecutive-game streak and top the highest cumulative amount of $3,255,102, won by Brad Rutter.”
But instead the answer turned out to be “Went home after a great three-night run.”
