Westbrook American Legion team remains undefeated with victory over Yarmouth
Scott Heath hit a three-run homer in the first inning to lead Saco & Biddeford Savings to a 5-1 victory over Yarmouth in an American Legion baseball game Wednesday at Westbrook.
Saco-Biddeford improved to 5-0 while Yarmouth fell to 2-4.
Joe Dvilinsky pitched a four-hitter with two walks and six strikeouts.
• Brendan Horton and Jack Lano each hit two-run singles as Morrill Post (3-1) scored seven runs in the fifth inning on the way to an 11-5 win against Libby Mitchell (1-4) at South Portland.
Declan Sullivan had two hits and an RBI for Libby-Mitchell.
• Cumberland (3-2) defeated visiting Nova Seafood (2-3) 3-2 despite two hits, two runs scored and three stolen bases by Sammy Balzano.
JUNIOR LEGION: Dalton Dunphy and Nick Belanger each drove in two runs to lead Lewiston (3-0) to a 12-2 victory at Yarmouth (3-4).
• Alec Hazelwood hit a three-run double and Cody Champagne had a two-run triple as Seacoast Law & Title (5-1) beat All Sports 15-4 in five innings at Westbrook.
NECBL: Mike Montville singled in the winning run in the eighth inning and the Sanford Mainers (8-6) posted a 3-2 victory over the visiting Holyoke Blue Sox (8-3).
Pat Devlin had a two-run double for the Mainers.
• Billy Bereszniewicz’s RBI single in the fifth helped Old Orchard Beach (2-11) to a 6-3 victory over the visiting Laconia Muskrats (5-9), who got three hits and two RBI from former Deering High standout Regan Flaherty.
TWILIGHT LEAGUE: Kevin Chamberlain pitched a four-hitter and Aero Heating & Ventilating (4-3) held off Mainely Mobile (5-4) for a 3-2 win at Standish.
OLYMPICS
GE EXTENDS SPONSORSHIP: General Electric Co. extended its global Olympic sponsorship through 2020 in a four-games deal worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
The International Olympic Committee said GE will continue as a top-level sponsor for the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and the 2018 Winter Games and 2020 Summer Olympics. The 2018 and 2020 host cities have not been selected.
BASKETBALL
WNBA: Reigning league MVP Lauren Jackson will have surgery to repair the torn labrum in her left hip and likely will be out 8 to 12 weeks, the Seattle Storm announced.
• Indiana Fever point guard Briann January will miss the rest of the season with a torn right knee ligament.
GOLF
WOODS’ ENDORSEMENT DEAL: Tiger Woods signed a three-year deal to promote a Japanese pain reliever, his first endorsement since he was involved in a sex scandal toward the end of 2009.
