DETROIT — A U.S. district judge has rejected Chrysler’s request to block a clothing retailer from using the automaker’s “Imported from Detroit” slogan that debuted in a Super Bowl ad featuring rapper Eminem.
On Tuesday, Judge Arthur Tarnow threw out Chrysler Group LLC’s lawsuit seeking a preliminary injunction against the Pure Detroit company.
Tarnow says it’s “hard to believe that a consumer shopping at Pure Detroit would think that the shirts are coming from Chrysler or that it was related to Chrysler.”
Chrysler spokesman Michael Palese said the automaker is disappointed and will continue fighting to protect the “Imported from Detroit” slogan.
Pure Detroit said Chrysler’s claims “are unsubstantiated” and involve complex trademark laws.
