Quilt and craft fair at church
A quilt and craft fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at First Parish Church, 40 Main St.
The church committee organizing the event, First Parish Market, is still looking for vendors to display their crafts. Admission is free. All proceeds will be used to support the church.

Summer Solstice Festival
South Freeport Church is holding its annual Summer Solstice Festival Friday through Sunday at the church, 98 South Freeport Road.
The festival will offer books, jewelry, art and a quilt raffle daily to raise money for local scholarships for the Mission Committee.
The festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday with a lobster supper from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost of the supper is $15 or $20 with clams.
It will be held 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, with a self-guided tour of several gardens from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets for the garden tour are $12. There will be food, talks and demonstrations at each garden.
The festival will continue from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday with a picnic lunch 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and a free concert by the Coastal Winds Community Band.

Rec camp open house
The South Portland Recreation Department is holding an open house Thursday for kids registered in its summer camps.
The event will give kids an opportunity to meet their camp counselor and leadership staff. The open houses will be held at the following locations:
The Little Riots camp for kids in grades 1 and 2 will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Dyer Elementary School on Alfred Street.
The Big Riots camp for kids in grades 3 and 4 will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Middle School on Wescott Street.
The camp for fifth- and sixth graders will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at Mahoney Middle School on Broadway in South Portland.
The teen extreme camp for kids in grades 7 and 8 will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at Redbank Community Gym, MacArthur Circle.

Animal rescue bake sale
The Homeless Animal Rescue Team will hold a bake and craft sale from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Walmart store.
All proceeds will benefit the no-kill, all-volunteer cat shelter located in Cumberland.

Friends School author event
Friends School of Portland on Mackworth Island is offering a free public event on Wednesdays this summer with Maine children’s book authors and illustrators.
Amy MacDonald, author of “Little Beaver and the Echo,” “Rachel Fister’s Blister” and the upcoming “Little Beaver and the Big Front Tooth” will kick off the series at 11 a.m. today at the school.

Wireless Society field day
The Wireless Society of Southern Maine, an amateur radio club that meets in Gorham and Scarborough, will meet this weekend to participate in a field day event at Wassamki Springs Campground on Saco Street.
Clubs across the United States and Canada use field days as a way to polish their operating skills and practice the rapid deployment of communications equipment.
Each year, more than 35,000 amateurs gather with their clubs or operate individually.
PORTLAND
Awake Collective opening
The Awake Collective, a new multi-use space providing massage and a variety of alternative healing arts services, is holding an open house from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at its new space at 509 Forest Ave.
The Awake Collective will offer yoga, dance, meditation, classes and workshops in support of awakening.
Practitioners will provide samples of their work from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a blessing of the space. A dance event will begin at 7 p.m. facilitated by Mindy Ray, who will serve as a disc jockey with live vocals.
