GORHAM – Officer Wayne Drown of the Gorham Police Department received recognition last week for his dedication as school resource officer at the Sebago Educational Alliance Center in Gorham’s former Little Falls School.

Heather Alvarez, Sebago Educational Alliance psychologist, presented a plaque to Drown. Rep. Jane Knapp, R-Gorham, read and presented a Legislative sentiment honoring Drown.

“This is a happy day,” Knapp said.

In accepting his awards, Drown, a 26-year veteran for Gorham police, spoke briefly.

“It takes a team,” he said, pointing to several Gorham police officers who attended the ceremony.

The awards were presented to Drown during the alliance’s end-of-the-year celebration in which students also received awards for excellence.

Sebago Educational Alliance is a regional collaborative effort of School Administrative District 6, Gorham, Scarborough, Westbrook and Regional School Unit 14 (Raymond and Windham). The alliance operates the day treatment center for students who need academic support and mental health treatment.

The Sebago Alliance closes out four years in Gorham on Thursday, June 23. Jennifer Searway, program director at the center, said it would relocate to the former Jewett School in Buxton, where it opens with a summer program on Tuesday, July 5.
