WINDHAM – A motorcyclist was killed in North Windham on Monday afternoon after colliding with a car on Route 302.
According to Lt. David DeGruchy of the Windham Police Department, Michael Kozel, 60, of Denmark, was killed Monday at around 4:10 p.m. after the motorcycle he was operating struck a 2012 Honda Civic driven by Henry Schaeflern, 83, of Raymond.
Schaeflern was making a left into Enterprise Drive (near Ice Cream Dugout) when the motorcycle struck the passenger side of the vehicle. Schaeflern was not injured but Kozel was pronounced dead at the scene. Kozel’s passenger, Linda Kozel, 52, was transported to Maine Medical Center in critical condition. According to DeGruchy, Kozel and his passenger both were thrown at least 15 feet in the collision. Neither occupant of the 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle was wearing a helmet.
The accident is being investigated by Officer Ernest MacVane and reconstructed by Officer Gene Gallant and Officer Jason Burke. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the accident. At this time no charges are pending, DeGruchy said.
