Dazzling dessert
Participants at the annual Youth Learn to Fish Day held at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester were treated to a special dessert this year thanks to Lisa Henderson. It took her two days to bake nine sheet cakes, consisting of four flavors including vanilla, strawberry, chocolate and blueberry citrus.
During the five-hour decoration process using 50 cups of frosting, Henderson used Rice Krispies Treats for forming the trout, gum paste for the bridge and people, piping gel for the pond water and butter cream for the grass. All of the cake’s components were edible, except for the gazebo.
Despite the enormous amount of time and effort invested in this project, Henderson completely enjoyed the work. She said, “Seeing the smiles on people’s faces is very rewarding.”
Now that her daughter will be entering school in September, Henderson has more time to devote to her craft. After nine years of baking and decorating cakes for family and friends, she recently started her own business Maine Frosted Fantasies in Gray. She specializes in custom-made cakes for all occasions.
