Construction update
You don’t have to be in the construction business to figure out that all this rain might delay the progress of the Causeway Project. On the lineup this past week were the completion of paving, then installation of curbs and the beginning of some sidewalks (that is very welcome news for us all!) Also in the works are completing the construction of docks, building some driveways, and Central Maine Power will also be transferring new lines to the poles.
Rain has been scheduled for this entire week leading up to the publication of this article, so it is anyone’s guess exactly how much will be accomplished if the weatherman is right. We do know if the paving and curbs are being worked on, delays are inevitable. During construction, expect the bridge openings at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday-Friday, Saturday at 12 and 2 p.m. and Sunday on even hours from 8-4 p.m. Regular bridge openings will resume June 15.

Fine dining for Brandy Pond
All the locals know what a fantastic chef Frank Merced is. Many of us have been eagerly awaiting his return to the local culinary scene. Well, the wait is over. Frank, along with his wife, Elaine, are the proud new owners of Merced’s Restaurant on Brandy Pond.
With Frank at the helm and Elaine running things up front, you are guaranteed a great meal and a friendly experience. I stopped in the other day to visit and get an update. The place was buzzing with activity. Elaine, with paint brush in hand, spoke of how customers could expect many of Frank’s signature dishes from his time at Sydney’s Restaurant, along with some new dishes that are sure to become classics. I am especially excited about Merced’s offering a take-out window for boats. I can’t think of a better fit for that location and am looking forward to stopping in again, this time to eat!
The restaurant is tentatively scheduled to open in late May for dinner from 4-9 p.m., Monday through Friday. On the weekends, they will be open for lunch and dinner, from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. This schedule will run through June. After June 23, they will open the doors for lunch starting at 11 a.m. seven days a week for the busy season. Congratulations and best of luck to the Merceds.
Parcel going
to the dogs?
Dog parks have long been a staple of many metropolitan cities, and now it could be Naples turn to get in on the fun. Dogs are an integral part of every family’s life and as such, often accompany families on their outings. Just from knowing so many dog-owning families, it is no fun when dogs aren’t permitted in public beaches or parks. Naples is looking to give dogs a place all their own to run, play and enjoy the company of other dogs.
Animal Control Officer Bobby Silcott, along with Naples Town Office employees and other interested Naples residents, are brainstorming the idea. They even have a site picked out. The parcel of land, located on Springer Road, is located off State Park Road, about a half-mile from Route 114. The land was formerly used as the town’s transfer site. This week, the group will meet for a site walk to discuss the possibilities. If you are interested in getting in on the ground level of this exciting project, contact Silcott via the Naples Town Office at 693-6364.
Library news
The Kid’s Book Club, run by Miss Deb Goldstein is one of the town’s best-kept secrets. What a great idea to get kids into reading. You know kids love to emulate what their parents do. The club empowers kids, and it’s fun too. Generally the club is recommended for grades 3-5. June’s book selection is “Stormy, Misty’s Foal.” The book club meets every last Thursday of the month. Call ahead to 693-6841 for times as they may vary. The very popular summer reading program will kick off on Tuesday, June 29. Also popular is the NPL Yard Sale on July 9 at the Naples Town Office Gym. Also slotted for July is the 11th Annual Kids n’ Kameras program. Check with the Library for more information on all these programs. And don’t forget to “like” them on Facebook.
