MANCHESTER, N.H. — Joel Carreno had not won a game in the Eastern League before he faced the Portland Sea Dogs this morning. If he pitches like he did today, he should be winning a lot more.

Carreno and two relievers held the Sea Dogs to one hit as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beat Portland 3-0 at the Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

The game was played at 10:30 a.m., a special Fisher Cats promotion that featured several school groups.

Sea Dogs starter Michael Lee pitched a solid game, allowing only two hits over six innings. One of those hits was a Mike McDade two-run home run in the fourth inning. Lee struck out two.

Carreno struck out seven over seven innings. The only hit he allowed was Chih-Hsien Chiang’s bloop single to left field in the third inning.

The Sea Dogs (11-19) now play five games over four days in New Britain. They return to Hadlock Field on May 17.
