Meredith Coolidge and Izzy Ainsworth listen to Company A, 3rd Maine Regiment Volunteer Infantry re-enactor Dick Cylik, as he talks to middle school students at Breakwater School in Portland about life during the Civil War on Monday. Five months of study to mark the 150th anniversary of the outbreak of the war culminated in a mock Civil War encampment on school grounds. Cylik, in character and dressed in the full uniform of a Union private, brought with him a collection of period tents, cookware and other supplies that soldiers might have used.
