WESTBROOK — The Westbrook City Council on Monday unanimously approved the operating budgets for the city and school department – $55.1 million combined.

Together, the 2011-2012 budgets would raise taxes by 4.2 percent, which is the same as 70 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation, or $132 for the owner of a $190,000 home.

Residents will vote at a June 14 referendum on the school budget, which is slightly less than $30.9 million and would increase the tax rate by 44 cents.

The $24.3 million municipal budget will raise taxes by 26 cents.

Also on Monday, the council approved a $300,000 contract for Westbrook-based Sebago Technics to design a new building for the city’s Public Services Department.
