Fun at Newbegin
There will be an indoor yard sale at Newbegin Gym on Saturday, April 30, 9-3 p.m. Free to public. Gently used items, crafts and jewelry for sale.
On Sunday, May 1, from 8 a.m.-10 p.m., scrapbooking with friends at Newbegin. Bring your own supplies, they will provide the tables and space. Potluck in the rec room. No games, no prizes. Run for our schools
The second annual Patriot 5K Race/Walk (USATF Certified) will be held May 21 from 9 a.m.-noon, starting at St. Gregory’s on North Raymond Road in Gray.
A total of $5,000 in cash prizes will be offered for this year’s top finishers. Online registrations are now being accepted. The first 200 to sign up will receive a short-sleeve technical fabric Patriot 5K shirt. The next 400 to sign up will receive a cotton Patriot 5K shirt. The race will be capped at 600 runners.
The Patriot Parents are a group of community volunteers whose goal is to support the Gray and New Gloucester elementary and middle schools. FMI, www.patriot5k.org.
Let there be music
The Casco Bay Concert Band made a special visit in April to Gray-New Gloucester High School’s concert band in honor of “Music in our Schools Month.”
The musicians offered several selections individually and two pieces in a combined band finishing with a rousing rendition of “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”
As part of their educational efforts, the Casco Bay Concert Band awarded scholarships to G-NG High School students to further their musical education, for lessons and tuition to jazz camp.
Open House
As part of National Emergency Medical Services week, Gray Fire-Rescue is holding its Annual Open House on Monday, May 16, at Gray Central Station on Route 26 from 5-8 p.m. There will be many events for all ages.

Food not fines
Participating libraries in Maine have declared the week of May 10-14 Food Not Fines Week. During this week patrons who return their overdue library items will have current and past fines excused in exchange for a donation of nonperishable food. Gray Public Library is participating in this program and your donations will benefit our local community food pantry located in the First Congregational Church in Gray.
Marcia Scott, a Mary Kay representative, will be at the Gray Public Library on Wednesday, May 4 to host a night of mother and daughter beauty makeovers. All are welcome and the event is free. Due to limited space, you must sign up for this event.

Little League Opening Day
Opening Day for the Gray Little League will be April 30. There will be a ceremony with all the teams at 12:30 p.m. There will be an honor guard, a singing of the national anthem, and an introduction of all the teams. Learn To Fish
The Gray-New Gloucester Optimist Club and FET, Inc. are presenting Learn To Fish Day on Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a free barbecue lunch, free worms and poles to borrow. The event is for children ages 4 to 12. Also featured are fishing instruction, fishing games, and the first 200 entrants will receive a T-shirt with sponsor logos and raffle prizes.

Fiddlehead fundraiser
Fiddlehead’s Annual Silent and Live Auction – PALETTE – to be held on Saturday, May 7. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Purchase your ticket in advance and you are automatically entered in the drawing for a Weber Gas Grill and attend this event and you get a free second entry. Patriot Players present Tom Jones
The Gray-New Gloucester High School Patriot Players present “Tom Jones” May 5, 6, and 7. The tale of Tom Jones and his Sophia features mistaken identities, a chase sequence, a sword battle, and an incompetent thief. All three shows will start at 7:30 p.m. and are at the the high school cafetorium.
Patriot Soccer Club
Registration for the Patriot Soccer Club fall 2011 season is now open through June 1. Team practices generally begin in August with games and tournaments scheduled September through the end of October.
The cost per child is as follows: $125 for the first child, $100 for second child and $75 for third child (or more). Registration will take place online at www.patriotsoccerclub.org. Payments may be paid by check and mailed to Registrar, Patriot Soccer Club, P.O. Box 120, Gray, Maine 04039.
