BOYS
1. Cape Elizabeth: Sophomores Matt Gilman and Satchel McCarthy, and senior Ross Sherman all return in singles for the defending Class B state champion. Doubles took a big hit, with only senior Ben Morse returning, but there is plenty of competition to fill the open slots.
2. Falmouth: A pair of freshmen, Justin Brogan and Brendan McCarthy, solidify a singles lineup that also includes senior Taylor Dimick. Falmouth’s doubles teams are always formidable.
3. Waynflete: The loss to track of singles state champion Brandon Thompson will make the spring less of a cakewalk, but the three-time defending Class C state champs still have sophomore Patrick Ordway and senior Eric Ordway at the top of their lineup, with sophomore Ben Shapiro at No. 3 singles.
4. Scarborough: Graduation took a toll on the team that went 13-2 and reached the Western Class A final, but Alex Henny, Dennis Liu and Andrew Talbot have the experience to lead the Red Storm through a wide-open SMAA schedule dominated in recent years by Windham.
5. York: The Wildcats lost three of their top five players to graduation after reaching the Western Class B final as the sixth seed, but have enough talent to contend with veterans Spencer Fountain, Jared Fitzgerald, Ryan Lusty, Andrew Lamonica and newcomer Jack Lawlor.
GIRLS
1. Falmouth: Falmouth has won three straight Class B state titles and 5 of 6. Five of seven starters return, including juniors Analise Kump and Annie Criscione, and sophomore Libby Voccola, none of whom has experienced a loss in high school at singles.
2. Brunswick: From a team that took five-time Class A state champion Lewiston to 3-2 in the regional final, the Dragons return nearly everyone except singles state champion Elena Mandzhukova, now at Kents Hill. Insert talented freshman Maisie Silverman and Brunswick once more boasts a strong lineup.
3. Gorham: With Western Class A champion Portland hit hard by graduation, the regional finalist Rams look to capitalize behind returning singles players Natalie Egbert and Sarah Moir, and veteran doubles players Megan Creeden, Emily Estes and Chloe Johnson.
4. North Yarmouth Academy: The Panthers are out for a fifth straight Class C state title with five of the top seven players returning, including senior Anna Jaeger and junior Sarah Jordan in singles. Senior Alison Znamierowski and junior Ally Morrison return at doubles.
5. McAuley: Junior Addie Devine, and seniors Nicole Connolly and Paige Hickey return at singles for the Lions, who went 11-3 and lost by a point to Gorham in the Western Class A semifinals.
